What is Factivism? What Role Does it Play Now?

Last week, I gave a conference at Columbia Business School here in NYC. I felt how the message of owning and learning our narrative resonated with Graduate Students. I started with my go-to stats;
->We Are The People (62 Million, 19% of the population, and by 203,0, almost one in every three Americans will be Latino.)
-> We Are The Youth (Most common age of Latinos is 19 vs. non Latinos is 61, this means four decades of secular growth and opportunity) and finally…
-> We Are the Workforce (The size of our contributions is enormous. Latinos contribute $3.8 trillion to the U.S. economy, we are 78% of net workforce growth, and we are launching businesses 10x faster than any other demographic.)
I am not tired of repeating that Latinos are the economic engine of this country. But if we, Latinos, don’t own and amplify that truth, no one else will. In a time of shrinking DEI budgets, corporate fatigue, and shifting national narratives, we must take control of our own. No one will make our story their priority unless we do.
That’s why we need #Factivism.
Factivism is the use of facts as a tool for change. It’s not just about citing statistics, it’s about transforming data into influence. It’s how we close the gap between perception and reality. While we are 20% of the population, we are still just 1% of executive roles, 1% of venture capital recipients, and 1% of media representation. The numbers don’t lie, but neither do the missed opportunities.
I centered the conversation on inviting them to become factvist to learn and own the data. “Become a factivist to be able to transform your life, your career, and your community. We all have to set the record straight, but being a factivist means doing it in a way that is a win-win-win for everyone. This is not about discrimination against other communities, it is just talking about growth and prosperity for all. A narrative that is meaningful, respectful, and relevant.”
We are part of the future, the vision Americans have. And the role we must play is to ensure that this country understands that investing in Latinos is investing in its own success.
Factivism is how we get there. You can also make a difference in your company, your school, and family gatherings. Let’s make our presence felt. Let’s own our voice, our narrative, and our impact. Download the 2025 Hispanic Star Toolkit, guide your conversations and strategy, because data is power, and perception drives reality.
Be a #Factivist. Start with the facts. Lead with purpose. Change the narrative. Because what’s good for Hispanics is good for America.
